Today was great. We planned to play volleyball with the sisters but we had fogotten about service. We did get everything done. I got a letter from Mom which said that Grandma and Grandpa got a new Lincoln Towne Car. Also Mom got a new 486 DX with a CD ROM drive. I’m jealous.
I started telecenter tonight; what an experience. I made 11 calls and got 2 referrals. One of them was a 74 year old man with emphysema who wanted to compare the Book of Mormon with the Bible. He asked if the Book of Mormon refuted the Bible. I told him that they supported each other. Sweet!!!
Telecenter was (is?) a program at the MTC when missionaries spend time making and/or receiving phone calls to prospective referrals and then pass along any referrals that come to the missionaries where they live. It was a new program when Ken went to the MTC – only a few missionaries participated and they stayed in the MTC longer than missionaries that didn’t do telecenter. It was still only limited when I went but we stayed 4 weeks instead of 5 doing telecenter. (Regular English speaking missionaries spent 3 weeks.) Sometime after my time in the MTC my understanding is that all English speaking missionaries (and possibly some or all Spanish speaking missionaries) participated in the telecenter and stayed for the normal allotted time in MTC. I don’t know if it is even a thing now.
