1 Nephi 1
Nephi says that he was educated and that he has seen afflictions, and then he considers himself to be highly favored of the Lord. Because of his “great knowledge of God” he is making this record, perhaps to record those blessings and show a record of the Lord’s mercy to His people. Nephi makes it according to his own knowledge, without the influence of others around him.

Lehi heeds the call of the prophets in Jerusalem. As he prays for his people he sees a vision and is called as a prophet.

Lehi is shown in vision Christ and he is given to know the wickedness of the people around him. Is this typical of haw prophets learn all the evils that their people are involved in?

This vision causes two responses in Lehi: first, he mourns for these people that he had been praying for; second, he glories in his God.

The wicked people reject him when he tries to help them see what he saw and know as he knew.

The response of the people is typical of evil people who revile against the righteous call to change – shut his mouth!
