1 Nephi 3
Lehi tells Nephi that he has been commanded to send Nephi and his brothers back to Jerusalem. Laman and lemuel complain, but because Nephi already had a testimony his response was “I will go and do.”

Lehi recognized that attitude as a sign that Nephi had been blessed by the Lord. Nephi and his brothers went and tried to accomplish the task according to the best of their knowledge. After they failed Nephi showed his attitude again by saying “[we won’t quit until we finish] wherefore, let us be faithful.” They again used their heads and again they failed. Laman and Lemuel showed their attitude and an example of the Natural Man. They were angry because they had no vision of the task at hand. They show that the Natural Man has no control because they begin beating Nephi and Sam. An angel told them where they stood spiritually. Laman and Lemuel say they they are much less mighty than Laban.
