1 Nephi 11:1
Nephi had desired to know and he had faith that he could know. Then he went about learning by pondering and taking the time to focus on what he wanted to know. Nephi made the required sacrifice. he had put forth his effort and then the Lord stepped in and made up the difference to give him what he wanted and therefore Nephi was carried away into an exceedingly high mountain.
There are many things I want of the Lord. Do I put forth my effort to make it happen? Is it a true desire or is it merely a wish? I know that I don’t currently put forth the effort. I want to receive a sure knowledge that I have received a remission of my sins. First thing I need to do in my efforts is to curb my sinning. Bruce R. McConkie said in his final talk that “if we are to have faith as Enoch and Elijah we must believe what they believed, see what they saw, and live as they lived.” Elder McConkie knew that because he had done that. I want to have that faith. I want to believe what they believed, see what they saw, and live as they lived. I know I can, it takes a lifetime of dedication. Its not a time requirement, but a level of sacrifice. When you have sacrificed everything then you can have everything given to you. I want to make that sacrifice.
