Notes 30 January 2000

It takes courage to follow the spirit, but it also takes courage to seek the spirit. What does it mean to be a son or daughter of God? Jessica Sorenson gave three personal reasons.

  1. We are loved unconditionally.
  2. We have a natural light within us.
  3. We are exposed to temptations and adversity

Joel Stevens talked about “trying to go up an escalator going down.” If my memory is correct he was talking about living a life of sin or trying to live contrary to the laws of happiness.

Why did Christ pay a price that was greater than I would ever be worth? {I did not have an answer to that when I wrote it, but one answer is that in fact I have the potential to be worth much more than the price that he paid, but not if he had not paid it.} I have been waiting until I was ready to continue the deeper study of the scriptures that I began on my mission. I realize that now is the time. Not that I am ready; just that the time is now.

  • Faith can be belief – more intellectual
  • Faith can be trust – more spiritual and less intuitive
  • Faith in God
  • Faith in the Kingdom
  • Faith in Man – or Mankind (from Christ’s Ideals for Living) {what he taught was a way that if men were to live that way we could have more faith in our fellow men. In this telestial world we can only rely so fully on God}

The building (great and spacious) is man-made and has no foundation. The tree is natural and has roots.

Be a well bridled horse. (not bridled by coercion but by choice)
