Commandments and Kite strings

Commandments truly are like kite strings. At first we have few commandments and little string. It (the string) or they (the commandments) keep us very close to God and they may seem restrictive. We feel tied and forget that we are tied to a lifeboat. As we obey the few commandments we are given more. We are more independent. Too often we see a longer string and feel that the length is used to be wrapped around a few extra times. We expect that it is to tie us tighter. Truly it is a stronger line so that we don’t get lost as we are given more freedom and the ability to make more decisions on our own. We become more and more of our own person. We have greater range as we earn more commandments. Truly the commandments hold us to God and the winds try to blow us away. We need that opposition to soar. When the wind dies the kite can move in ways to create it’s own wind. That only works because of the kite string. With no string and no wind there is no guessing the outcome – except the kite won’t fly. If the string is cut the kite will be blown away. It will fall far from it’s maker and it will be broken. It may never be found but even if it is found it will not be whole. If it can be flown again it will only be after much repair and a new string. It will again begin with a short string. The commandments will have to be earned again.
