Mosiah 29:41
In the land of a righteous and covenant people which had no laws stipulating a separation of church and state, it seems quite natural that the people would choose Alma the Youngr their newly appointed high priest in the church, to serve as the cheif judge in their newly formed government. The election of judges that takes place here marks the beginning of the pinnacle of secular Nephite society. This action makes the people immune from the whims of one man, whereas before, they, like the Jaredites before them, had been highly suseptible to the changing whs of their various kings.
