Alma 1:30
As the church prospered and had abundant means they gave of their abundance rather than becoming prideful and beginning to hoard what moth and rust doth corrupt and theives break through and steal. They had such abundance hat they did not turn any away no matter what their circumstance. The fact that they gave freely to all whether in or out of the church must have helped people to not view the church as haughty. People find it easy to recognize and hard to forget a ‘holier than thou’ attitude. By giving freely the church became much more wealthy than those who sought, hoarded or worshipped wealth.
