In some ways, Alma as chief judge had the same responsibilities as he would have had if he had been king. He marched at the head of the army as they went to fight the Amlicites. One lesson that we can learn from this story is that being on the Lord’s side in a struggle does not guarantee that it won’t be difficult. It only guarantees that when the struggle is over, you will have a share of the victory. When fighting on the Lord’s side against the Amlicites there were many of the Nephites driven back by the ferocity of the Amlicites.
