Alma 5:19
I never realized before that Alma revisits the three categories in these questions here. “Can you look up to God with clean hands and a pure heart having his image engraven on your countenance?” That is the first group to whom the Lord calls “come unto me you blessed.” “Can ye think to be saved when ye have become subject to the devil?” That is the second group that thinks to lie their way to heaven claiming righteousness. “Ye will know at that day that ye cannot be saved.” That is the third group brought before God filled with guilt. Alma goes on to show that the second group will continue on to the knowledge of the third group “for there can no man be saved except his garments be washed white.” Our garments must be purified through the Atonement of Christ that no stain remain if we are to enter His rest.
