Omni 1: 1-11
I have always wondered about Omni’s declaration that he was not a righteous man. In my mind I thought “you were given charge of the plates, you must not have been very wicked – this must be more about humility than righteousness.” While I would not accuse him of being wicked, I am changing my opinion on this. Omni seems not to truly understand the purpose of the record that he had, nor do his sons Amaron and Chemish. They seem to see the plates as nothing more than genealogy. I would not all any of them wicked, but Omni seems to be secular and his sons may have been taught the same. Abinadom gives a glimmer of understanding towards the spiritual purpose of the plates, but his record suggests that the people were not receiving any significant revelation.
