I think that Limhi announced himself as he did because he really did not have any idea who he was dealing with, or in other words, he could not imagine who these men could be. I think it would have been very sad for all the Nephites if Ammon had not been forgiving over his three days in prison. Instead, he held no malice but set about seeking to finish the errand he had come to do. His brethren were retrieved from their camp on the hill and he was informed of the sad situation of his brethren with Limhi.
