Alma 8
As I read about the way that Alma was treated on his first visit to Ammonihah I am impressed by the workings of a free society where the central government did not try to control the details of the various cities. The people of Ammonihah were free to practice their own religion – different than the majority of people – and even cast Alma out of their city because he did not believe as they did. Nevertheless, both he and they were free to live according to their beliefs so long as they did not break the laws of the land. Alma was even able to be the high priest of the church while serving as the chief judge.
