The contrast between Moroni and Amalakiah could not be more stark. Amalakiah took his power by deceit and gathered followers by preaching hatred to them. Moroni was given his power legally and worked to build the defenses of the people while preaching the gospel of peace among them. The result was that the Nephites fought with strength and reluctance to even kill their enemies while the Lamanites fought with hatred, and no fear of sending their own men to needless death.
