The difference between being guided by the spirit and following the direction of human intellect is stark. Amalakiah thought that by copying Moroni in protective armor for his army he would be able to defeat Moroni. By following the spirit Moroni was 2 steps ahead of Amalakiah. The result was that the Lamanaites would not even attack the first city they came to and then they vowed to attack the next only to discover that Moroni had made it even stronger than the first. Thousands of Lamanites were killed while not one Nephite was lost.
