One of the keys to Moroni’s preparations for defense is that he built defenses in all the cities, not just the vulnerable cities, or the large cities. He also went beyond taking just one new step at a time. Having tested his walls-and-ditches successfully he added a six foot timber-work topped by high pickets overlooked by towers which had places to protect those who were on the towers. He also did more than protect existing cities. He removed Lamanites who might threaten them from their own lands and built new cities in areas that would give them better protection.
