Helaman 1 – 2
Sometimes it is amazing how smoothly things can function in the midst of great disruptions. After two new Chief Judges were killed within a year and the capitol city was captured by the Lamanites, the Nephite army was able to defeat the Lamanites and restore order in less than a year because Moronihah did not panic when there was no political leader. He did his job of leading the military and then allowed the people to choose a new chief judge when there was not obvious successor. I think it is interesting to note that their choice of Helaman placed the political leadership back in the family that had previously held it before voluntarily relinquishing it to the family that had so recently lost their line of succession through 3 quick deaths (Pahoran, Pahoran Jr., and Pacumeni) and a dissension (Paanchi).
