Helaman 3
I have often been amazed at how quickly the Nephites could turn from righteousness to wickedness and back. I realize that part of this surprise is a result of the way the Book of Mormon was written. At all times there were those who were righteous and those who were less than righteous. The way the story is written, the history is simplified by focusing on whichever group was more influential in shaping the history of the people at any given time. Thus this chapter focuses on the success of the church even though the people were being lifted up in pride individually and collectively. Their pride was not, at this time, leading them to wars.
