The tabernacles being referenced were temporary shelters that the people would build using living branches.
This takes place 5 days after Rosh Hashanah and lasts 7 days
This is the time just when living outside is becoming uncomfortable, but this practice displays their faith in the protection of God.
Sukkot is the plural form of Sukkah
These are booths constructed of living branches.
THe wedding booths are reminiscent of the Sukkah
The people are expected to watch the heavens for the coming of the Messiah.
They would live in their Sukkah rather than their homes.
All men were expected to meet the Lord at the temple during that time (essentially it was for an interview with God)
I would expect that Christ would come at the fall rather than at spring as he did at His birth.
- The most important part of the feast is is the Water Libation
- They would pour water an the alter all the days (except possibly the last)
- Water was poured on the west side of the alter (towards Shiloh)
- Wine was poured on the east side of the alter (towards Gethsemane)
They would offer 70 bullocks representing the 70 original nations of the earth (so they were blessing all gentiles)
They had great lights 75 feet tall which burned olive oil all night from the temple and were so bright that the whole city was illuminated.
I would love to string together all 7 feasts and observe each of them in some fashion while remembering what they represent.
We should look to our modern feasts as well and see them for what they are (Sacrament, Temple worship)
