2 Nephi 28 – 29
The doctrine of “eat, drink, and be merry” was the doctrine of Nehor – I wonder if the Nephites ever felt that the prophecy here was about their time. When Nephi says that all have gone astray he is talking specifically about the preachers – among them the few who were really humble followers of Christ did still err because they were taught by the precepts of men. Among the lay people there were probably many who were simply followers, but again they did err because of their leaders.
