I think that as Alma was telling Amulek that they were not to stretch forth their hands to save the people he knew that the people of Ammonihah were doomed to destruction. He knew by this open and blatant act of defiance, shedding the blood of innocent and defenseless people in retaliation against the truth that the Spirit had ceased to strive with them. Those who were still susceptible to the Spirit had been cast out from among them and as Alma had prophesied they no longer had any protection from the fullness of the wrath of God. I wonder if that was part of the reason that Alma and Amulek never spoke to the leaders of Ammoninhah again. They stayed silent every time they were mocked or questioned.
