Guile has such a negative connotation that I have a hard time ascribing it to Ammon so I looked it up. The definition “a trick or stratagem” is listed as being obsolete. So the neutral definition of the word (stratagem) is obsolete which would account for the completely negative connotation attached to it now. Ammon used a stratagem to get Lamoni to believe his words. By so doing he brought salvation to thousands.
