I just realized why they chose the name Anti-Nephi-Lehies – they wanted to be distinguished from the Lamanites and they did not want to be remembered by the name of their ancestor who first rebelled against God, but they did not want to pretend to be of the lineage of Nephi because that would be untrue so they took the name of Lehi and indicated that they were not born in the tradition of the Nephites.
