There are times when I think that part of the clarity of the Book of Mormon comes from the perspective of history and some convenient bias in favor of the side from which the writers came. I don’t mean to suggest that there is any dishonesty on their part, but perhaps the Lamanites were not always as sinister as they have been painted. Perhaps there are times when they were not seeking the bloody subjection of the Nephites so much as following the universal wish of the natural man to test the boundaries and get whatever he can get away with.
