“In memory . . .” The reason that Moroni started the Title of Liberty with these words is that the cause of their problem was that the people had not, as Alma would have said it, “[remembered] the captivity of their fathers.”
- They had forgotten God and His great mercies in preserving them.
- They had become casual in their religious devotion.
- They had forgotten the nature of freedom that Mosiah had taught – that every man should be responsible for himself.
Moroni also knew that if they did not remember those things their peace would be destroyed and their wives and children would pay the price of their foolishness.
