Alma 53
The example of the stripling warriors compared with their parents shows how the Lord works with each person individually. The parents made a righteous covenant to not take up arms even to defend themselves. Their sons made an equally righteous covenant to take weapons and fight for the liberty of their country. The key is that each covenant was made with the Lord and was based on a love of their fellow men. What the Lord expects of us will vary according to our abilities and our circumstances, but a righteous covenant will always be according to His will and will be based on a love of Him and our brethren.
