I had always found it odd that Samuel would say that the Lord hated the Lamanites and that their deeds had been continual wickedness during a time when the Lamanites were more righteous than the Nephites. This time through I realized that the Lamanites had only started on the path to conversion and righteousness in a widespread way within the very century that Samuel was speaking – they had 500 years of history before that where they had continually been without the gospel.
