Moses 6
I don’t know why I had not realized this years ago, but the line of patriarchs is not from father to oldest son, it is from father to first covenant-keeping son. We have no indication that any of these were the firstborn sons of their fathers or that these men waited for 60 to 100 years before they began having sons. We do know with Adam that Seth was not his first son, and neither was Abel (nor Cain for that matter). It almost seems that those children who would not keep the covenants also chose not to learn to read and write, seeing no use for keeping records.
Secret combinations are as old as mankind – we must never forget that or believe they are less than consistent in being maintained.
It sounds like the people were not generally aware of those righteous people who went and dwelt in the promised land of Cainan. They asked Enoch where he was from and he told them he had come from Cainan. Enoch tells them that the people in Cainan still know Adam, the first man, because of their record of genealogy. If it was during the first 323 years of his ministry then Adam was still probably among them. The other people without record probably had already lost their memory of the origins of man. Perhaps those who were early sons of Adam had all died out among them.
I can just imagine Satan coming to Adam saying “I am a son of God, worship me.” Adam would simply reply, “I am also a son of God, why need I worship you?” Adam knew that only one Son of God who would be called Son of Man was worthy of his worship because He would cleanse the transgression of Adam.
