I wonder what would have happened if the lot had fallen to Nephi – would he have been better at talking to Laban, perhaps proactively offering to pay for the plates, or would the encounter have been very much the same? Obviously it was desirable that they should try lawful means before resorting to killing Laban.
I love the explicit promise of the angel that the Lord would deliver Laban into their hands. I am starting to see why Nephi could boldly go without knowing what the Lord would have him do – he had the assurance that the Lord would lead him to success in his errand.
