I have resolved after Education Week to write in my journal each night just as I take notes during my scripture study each morning. Conveniently I get to start this endeavor with an actual story. Saturday I spent much of the day with Andy working on various sprinkler projects – we fixed on broken head, added to new sprinklers off of an existing line, and installed an automatic valve for the one line of sprinklers that was not automatic. We also started moving a drainage hose. When we finished for the day one sprinkler was clogged from where we added the two new sprinklers and while the automatic valve was installed it had not fully been connected to the controller. Today I set about fixing these problems. I took the head off the clogged line and ran the water for a minute to clear the line – I also cleared the clog out of the head and that was fixed. I found another clogged head and repeated the procedure. Then I got to testing the automatic valve and got everything hooked up. It was exciting to finish. The only thing not completed was that the new valve was hooked up to an old piece of hose which leaked. I decided to fix that before the evening watering by replacing the hose clamp. It was a simple task – unfortunately as I was reattaching the hose the metal pipe broke. I spent the next half hour trying to turn off the irrigation water. I turned off the culinary water, but finding the irrigation water shutoff was difficult because grass had grown over the small covering. I finally got the irrigation water off and the culinary water on around 9:15 pm.
P.S. Today Savannah started second grade. We kept her home throughout first grade but felt that she was ready for public school now that she is seven. I think I’ll keep all the kids home until they are seven. (We’re still keeping Alyssa home even though she is well ahead of her peers academically at six.)
