Helaman 4
I can imagine Nephi feeling helpless as the Chief Judge while Zerahemla is taken and the Nephites lose all their land south of Bountiful. As the Prophet he would have been able to connect that the losses were due to great disregard for the gospel. That is probably why he chose to give up the judgment seat when even that great loss could not bring them to repent enough to regain their lands – the best that Moronihah could do among the people only brought back half their possessions. I wonder how many of the Nephite dissenters were from among the poor, and how many were from among the wealthy who were frustrated in their attempts to compel their fellow citizens to act the way they thought best.
