I didn’t realize that withing 3 years of defeating the robbers the people were already displaying the telltale signs of wickedness. Notice that this renewed secret combination was not a group of idealists who slowly (or even quickly) turned to justifying their wickedness for the sake of their cause – they formed with the express purpose of defying the law and destroying the liberty of the people.
