4 Nephi 1
Perhaps I have said this before, the Nephites built up again cities that had been destroyed, that’s natural, but they knew when to leave cities that had been sunk – we still try to resuscitate New Orleans.

I wonder how much of the length of this peace was an almost inevitable result of the kind of ministering they had received from the Savior and how much was a result of the continued righteous efforts of the people afterward. How soon could the people have turned to wickedness if they had not been diligent in passing on the lessons they had learned?

The wearing of costly apparel and no longer holding their goods in common is the breaking point – that is where this extensive peace became assured of expiration – how early could that have happened? (I suspect that it could have happened within 100 years if not sooner, but they maintained it for just over 200 years.) Notice that once that took place the society was filled with wickedness and false churches imitating the Church of Jesus within less than 30 years.
