Happy day – my presidency received their calls today and they all accepted – Alex Monson’s face positively lit up when the call was extended. He couldn’t say yes fast enough. Laura happened to have a chance to talk to Lisa Monson (Alex’s mom) later in the evening and so we know a few more specifics about the challenges that he faces (anxiety attacks). I am all the more assured that this is going to be a good call for him and that he will have much to offer our presidency because of his situation and his personality.
I was thrilled with the information (or confirmation) that I would necessarily be set apart by President Taylor because only the stake president has keys to be able to bestow keys on the elders quorum president – his counselors could set my counselors apart, but he will definitely set me apart.
To go back a step, at the end of priesthood our high counselor, Brother Welch, asked if he could speak to me. He invited me to come at 2:30 (30 minutes warning) to the stake center so that they could call my presidency, he also asked me to point out the men I had chosen so that he could invite them (he asked them to come while I was not around, but he confirmed visually with me as to who they were before making the appointments).
Alex is not the only one that I am excited to work with – I am excited to work with them all and know they will do well – it’s just that Alex seems to have the most immediate benefit from the call, I knew that he likely needed the validation that the Lord could still use him and have confidence in him after feeling as though he had failed when he could not complete a full two year mission.
We will be set apart next Sunday and I am looking for Enoch to be born very early this week so that things can settle just a bit before I am set apart. Right now Laura has started having some contractions that are feeling more real than anything she has felt earlier – I pray that this is the beginning of labor – I vote for a nice early morning birth (2 AM would be fine – especially since Laura feels like she has good energy at the moment).
After I got back from the stake center (around 4 PM) we had dinner, made cookies, and delivered nearly a dozen plates of cookies – Laura went to the Miller’s house to practice a musical number while we delivered the last of the cookies but overall a very good evening – here’s hoping for an eventful and early morning.
Also, today was the primary program and I have to say that I was very impressed with the spirit and they way the children were attentive and participated int he singing – it was fun to see Mariah up there singing away – she was so short that even on the stool we could see nothing of her behind the podium when she got up to speak (the very first part) she was too timid to actually say anything, but she did fine other than that (no whimpering or cowering, just silent). Alyssa was her in-my-own-world self as she left the meeting (from her literally front and center seat on the stand (I assume for the bathroom) and later returned to the stand in the middle of the closing hymn.
