Ether 9
I wonder how familiar Moroni was with Jaredite geography in order to say with certainty how it related to Nephite geography. Here, early in the Jaredite history the king moved and Moroni is able to say that he went past the place where the Nephites were destroyed. All but 30 people destroyed in the war between Akish and his sons – that would have been terrible and it means that there were far fewer Jaredites by the time they were destroyed than there would otherwise have been. I would guess that there were tens of thousands of Jaredites by this point in history and almost certainly less than 1000 remained for Omer to lead after that conflict ran out of steam (or rather, bodies).
I wonder if the century that separated Com from his righteous father helped to catalyze the change so that after three righteous kings Com was not committed to righteousness opening the door for his son, Heth, to be so wicked that the people were once again nearly destroyed. Perhaps I am placing too much on the shoulders of Com and this really was about Heth and not his father.
