What a day. I managed to be late to my meetings by almost 10 minutes. We recovered from that and I filled out the form for Enoch’s blessing. When I arrived home the house was packed. We had a nice lunch but when we went to the church apparently my instructions got Steve and Andy confused – Steve ended up at the wrong church (he managed to get it straightened out in time) and Andy went the long way to our church. I didn’t even see Jared come but he was there without his family (like I was at his last blessing). What’s really sad is that I was so worn out that I literally only saw four people in the circle – Enoch, Andrew Eyring (holding the microphone), Andy, and Dale Muir (from the Bishopric). I felt really good about the blessing, I felt prompted about what to say, including a little prompting from Brother Muir near the end reminding me to invoke the proper priesthood authority. I guess some things just don’t have to go smoothly to get done. Andy and Marsha were treated to a very unusual degree of participation by President Eyring in Sunday School as he talked about his own struggle to understand the importance and details of divine investiture of authority by which the Savior acts in the stead of Heavenly Father – it was powerful. (Apparently he made another powerful statement in the High Priests Group lesson as well.) I felt that my lesson in Elder’s Quorum went pretty well. When we got home we invited Andy, Marsha, Emily, and the Castleton kids to stay for dinner. It was nice to talk in a smaller group while the kids played. They didn’t leave until after 6:00 so it was a nice, whole-day affair.
