1 Nephi 17
“We might have been happy.” So said Laman and Lemuel. For Nephi, he was happy to be following the commandments of the Lord. Had they remained in Jerusalem, even with the sanction and blessing of the Lord, Laman and Lemuel would likely not have been happy in whatever their circumstance. They may have been more content or comfortable, but not happy – that would have required some righteousness on their part. I can imagine Laman and Lemuel saying this to their children rather than directly to Nephi – being just like teenagers in their own maturity.
