2 Nephi 13 – 16
I think that the “captain of fifty” is not specifically military, just someone who leads that number of men in some capacity – our Elder’s quorum has fifty members so under that interpretation the Lord would take away someone like me from Jerusalem.

“A man shall take hold of his brother and say thou hast clothing, be thou our ruler and the brother shall respond, in my house is neither food nor clothing.” In other words, those who appear to be economically stable will know that their supposed stability is an illusion.

“Wo unto them who join house to house till there can be no place that they be placed alone in the midst of the earth.” I have joked that this is an indictment against apartments, and in a way it is, but the real meaning is that there is no sphere where people may act independently without interference from those around them and without unduly affecting those who should be independent of them.
