2 Nephi 20 – 23
I love how the Lord can and will use imperfect and even unsuspecting men to do his work. He did not need to send the king of Assyria against Jerusalem because the king of Assyria was already inclined to conquer what he could. All the Lord had to do was not defend the kingdom of his chosen people and they were punished by the Assyrian who knew not God at all.
The prophecy is that a men will be in short supply. It may not be that there are no males, it may be that masculinity among them is nearly dead – the real masculinity, meaning strength and concern to protect those around them from evil.
