Mosiah 19 – 20
I feel confident that the offensive crackdown against Alma and his people, whom the rest of the society knew to be good and not rebellious, brought about the division by which Gideon, among others decided to actively rebel. I’ll bet that Limhi was not actively rebelling, but he was good enough to recognize the wickedness of his father and not punish those who had rebelled when the time came for him to be king.

It was two years before the daughters of the Lamanites were abducted by the priests of Noah – how long had they watched the place where those Lamanite women danced before they kidnapped them? And did they even consider what the results of their actions might be?

I think the fact that Limhi came unarmed and returned their king to them unharmed combined with the fact that they made no demands for his return – only asking for a stop to the bloodshed – made it easy for the Lamanites to return to the status quo of having the Nephites pay that heavy tribute.
