Alma 1 – 2
Notice that before he committed murder Nehor was not inhibited from his preaching by any in the church – even if they did preach the opposite of what he was advocating. While Alma speaks against the priestcraft, it is the murder for which Nehor is punished.

I am always struck by the fact that when people share freely to help those around them and when they work freely to provide for their own needs and wants they naturally become wealthy over time – because of steadiness. If the society is stable and generous then resources are not wasted on things of no value – like excessive security measures and pointless frivolities. Not that everything is sterile – I don’t think that beauty and aesthetic decoration are without point, but random experimentation and rebellion are curtailed by the impulses of generosity and the accompanying thrift. Those who do not practice that industrious generosity were more likely to spend their substance on things of no worth, like sorceries and idleness.
