Alma 3 – 4
I have many times taken note of the speed with which the people could turn from righteousness to sin. I have seen the same speed of degeneration in modern times. I think it only fair to note that people are capable of turning to righteousness just as quickly – that change is rarely as speedy as the change from righteousness to wickedness, but it can be – especially on the level of personal attitudes.

It’s rare that we consider that the members of the very church that carries the authority of God can have a net negative influence on the society around them. Such was the case in the 8th and 9th years of the judges among the Nephites.

Alma demonstrates that it is impossible to simultaneously lead politically among a free people while still giving full spiritual leadership. he made a choice – one that I need to make as well. Personally I prefer the priesthood to political influence so Church callings will always be my first priority. Hopefully I can still have some political influence.
