I wonder if Zerahemnah was a Lamanite by ancestry or if he was a descendant of a Nephite line.
I think it is important to recognize that within the Book of Mormon we find great spiritual examples not only among the prophets but also among the kings and the military leaders. Of course not every one of them is a high example, but that diversity of examples reminds us that we can be exceedingly righteous no matter what our station or occupation.
I get the impression that Alma received the answer from the Lord%u2014along with knowledge that Moroni would be seeking guidance from the prophet%u2014before the messengers of Moroni had even arrived at his door.
