I don’t think I had noticed before that this appears to make a distinction between the people of Ammon and the many others who migrated to the North during this period of time – the people of Ammon did not go because of dissensions and disputations. Perhaps they were simply seeking to find a place of their own and put more distance between themselves and the Lamanites.
This account of the Lamanites winning all the capital parts of the Nephite lands up to the land of Bountiful might be something like having our enemies conquer all our cities, states, and people east of the Mississippi river.
