Helaman 6
It’s ironic that at the same time when preaching the gospel among the Lamanites resulted in the Nephites getting their land back (when their armies could not even regain that land) it had virtually no effect to preach the gospel among the Nephites because they simply rejected the message. The people benefitted from the spreading of the gospel but would not allow it to spread among themselves or in their own hearts.
It’s interesting to think that these people were grossly wicked because of their pride which was fostered by an extended period of peace and stability. Our nation today is grossly wicked (possibly a bit less than the Nephites as this point in their history but I wouldn’t be confident of that possibility) but we have become proud and wicked in our prosperity despite a neverending succession of wars and the perpetual threat of economic turmoil. That does not speak well of us.
