Stand close together and lift where you stand.
Many men understand the value of lifting where they stand, but those who do not generally fall into one of two categories – they seek to lead, or they seek to hide.
Those who seek to lead envy more prominent callings and fail to fill the callings they have.
Those who seek to hide avoid callings.
Seeking to lead and seeking to hide are both rooted in selfishness. There is a better way – service.
We too easily and too aften get caught up in seeking the honors of men.
When we stand before God he will not look at the titles we had in the world or even in the church besides “husband”, “father”, and “priesthood calling”
The Lord looks at things differently – He loves a humble servant better than a self-serving leader.
Individual recognition is rarely a measure of the value of our service.
The 2060 Sons of Helaman accomplished more together than any of them could have accomplished on their own.
Sometimes the Lord grants us the knowledge that we are worthy to serve in a specific calling. We may miss the rest of His message, that He has another place for us and He asks that we would lift where we stand.
May we cease to aspire and cease to retire.
