Moroni 7
I have always lumped those Nephites who escaped into the south countries in with hose who defected to the Lamanites during the final battle as cowards. I believe I was wrong about that. Those who escaped may have been among the “peaceable followers of Christ” that Mormon spoke to earlier. Perhaps they escaped hoping to live in peaceful obscurity. If so they must eventually have abandoned their belief in Christ or been killed by Lamanites. Those who defected to the Lamanites may possibly have been justified by the fact that the Nephites were every bit as wicked as the Lamanites. That is minimal justification as the Lamanites were grossly wicked so joining them is no indication o righteousness.
I finally understand the phrase “if a man have faith he must needs have hope.” It means that anyone who has faith must have or seek hope if his faith is to have any effect and the hope that he needs is a hope to be raised to eternal life through the Atonement of Christ. If you have hope that hope is vain if it is not evidenced by the pure love of Christ manifest in your actions to the children of men around you.
