Exodus 2 – 3
I love how Moses’ basket is called an ark. In fact the description of how it was prepared with slime and pitch reminds me (intentionally I believe) of the building of Noah’s Ark. Notice that the purpose of each is to save the occupant(s) from destruction. Moses was raised in his own home during his early years as his mother was paid by the daughter of Pharaoh to care for Moses until he should return as her son. Moses did not learn of his heritage in a surprise one day when he was essentially grown. While Moses was undoubtedly surprised by his prophetic call it was not a call from a god he had never known. He had grown in the gospel under the tutelage of his father in law, the priest of Midian, where the covenants and priesthood had not been lost.

In his mother’s house he learned of his Hebrew heritage and culture. In the house of Pharaoh he learned about leadership and they ways of Egypt (and possibly the world at large) and living with the priest of Midian he learned about the priesthood and covenants with God which had been forgotten among the children of Israel and obviously rejected in Egypt.

I notice that Moses was told up front that Pharaoh waould not let the Hebrews go easily.
