Exodus 12
Sheep or goats for the pascal lamb – I didn’t know that. Also, the people were to pick the lamb four days before killing it – that means that this plague did not come the night after it was predicted. In fact, they were given a specific day of the month to select their lamb so they had warning well in advance. The blood of the lamb was to mark the doorposts of the house where they ate the feast whether their own house or that of a neighbor. And they were to gather in groups large enough to eat the entire lamb – every edible part. The lamb hadto be roasted, not boiled or raw (I doubt many would have tried raw at the time but I can imagine the rules becoming twisted by some in the spirit of haste if the Lord did not specify that raw was not acceptable. They were to eat while being dresssed to leave.

It is no wonder that the people remember after so many generations because part of the annual feast/celebration includes recounting what they are celebrating.

Those who are not of the house of Israel shall not participate in Passover. Any man who is not circumcised is forbidden.
