Exodus 29
Moses performed one series of animal sacrifice to sanctify Aaron and his sons. It sounds in form
much like the sacrifices that they would perform during the remainder of their lives. As I heard of the instruction to sprinkle blood from one of the sacrificial rams I thought it was a shame that such beautiful clothing should be spoiled with blood the first time it was to be worn. Then I was reminded that just yesterday I stated to a liberal acquaintance that mortal survival was not my highest objective for me or my fellow men. Similarly, beautiful and symbolic clothing was not the Lord’s highest aim as He gave instructions for the sanctification of His covenant people.
I just realized that one of the reasons that all the Lecitical rites are so confusing is that those who translated the records did not understand the ceremonies or their symbols and thus the meaning was more easily lost in translation.
It is interesting that anything of their burnt offerings which they have not eaten by the next morning shall be burned – that reminds me of the manna which could not be consumed after the day it was gathered.
